Afterworld System Requirements

Steam lists OS, CPU, and GPU as TBC — do not buy hardware on a rumor.

Afterworld System Requirements

Afterworld’s Steam page includes the usual Paradox three-column layout — Windows, macOS, SteamOS + Linux — and then prints TBC for OS, processor, and graphics on both Minimum and Recommended. That is the entire official hardware story today. This page exists so searchers who type “Afterworld system requirements” get a sourced answer instead of a guessed RTX number. The game is upcoming. Specs can appear months before a date, or on the same afternoon as one.

Parent hub: tools. Pair this with the wishlist checklist so a spec update actually reaches you. Gameplay context sits in how to play.

What Steam shows right now

Platforms listed: Windows, macOS, Linux (SteamOS + Linux heading).
Minimum: 64-bit processor and operating system required; OS TBC; Processor TBC; Graphics TBC.
Recommended: the same TBC rows.
Steam Deck: Unknown.
Other store notes: in-game purchases and online interactivity are flagged; that is about commerce and multiplayer, not VRAM.

If another site already lists an Intel generation or an Nvidia card, they did not get it from this Steam page. This wiki will not copy them.

How to think about PDS hardware without numbers

Recent Paradox Development Studio games are CPU-heavy late, GPU-light compared with shooters, and hungry for RAM once the map fills with characters and pops. Afterworld adds settlement layers and a procedural continent, which could be either “CK3 plus extra jobs” or “something meaner.” Until the row fills, the only honest comparison is: if your PC already runs Crusader Kings III or Hearts of Iron IV at your comfort settings, you are in the conversation. If it does not, wait. Buying a card “for Afterworld” in August 2026 is shopping for a ghost.

Laptop players should care more about thermals and pause-friendly play than about ultra presets. Afterworld is a grand strategy game. You will pause. Multiplayer is the exception, and even that is a PDS-style map, not a 120-fps arena.

macOS and Linux

The fact that those columns exist is the news. It does not mean day-one native builds are promised at a specific quality. TBC on macOS has, in other Paradox titles, sometimes meant “later” or “Proton.” We will not convert a heading into a guarantee. When Steam changes the Linux row from TBC to a glibc version, this page will quote it.

What could raise the spec later

A 3D campaign map with lots of unique remnant art. Populated law-and-character layers at empire scale. Co-op clients simulating the same famine. None of that is measurable today. The preview talks about the B-roll’s look; it is still alpha.

What to do this week

Do not upgrade. Wishlist. Confirm your OS is 64-bit and still supported by Steam itself. If you are assembling a co-op group, share this page so nobody gets kicked for a GPU Paradox has not requested. Return after each updates drop. The first diary that mentions engine or 64-bit RAM targets will be cited here.

Controls and accessibility options are also unpublished. When they appear they may land on this page if they include UI scale, colorblind settings, or low-spec modes. Until then, there is no Afterworld “potato preset” to recommend.

For the rest of launch prep, use getting started and official links. For the fantasy you hope your PC will run, keep settlements and origins in the reading pile — those pages do not depend on a GPU SKU.
